Extra Credit | BlogLovin’

Extra Credit

Extra Credit is a new weekly(ish) feature where I give a quick shout-out to bookish things I love.

This week, I’m giving Extra Credit to BlogLovin’!

(I’m also giving myself bonus points for my sassy slap-dash graphic there. Yes, I do know how to do fonts. And colors. And slap-dashery. Be impressed.)

BLOGLOVIN’! Like, I knew this was a thing, but I had not really felt the need to enter the BlogLovin’ world. Living in the WordPress.com universe, I mostly used my email and the WordPress reader to keep up with blogs. My switch to Book Host, though, has changed all of that. I’ve lost a lot of my regular commenters and interaction with the WordPress community, which I expected.

BlogLovin’ lets me follow all the blogs in one reader. I had readers, like Google Reader and Feedly, that I’ve used pretty regularly. But BlogLovin’ has a community aspect that I really enjoy. It seems to be the main place where book bloggers can follow each other and keep up with the community. And one click takes me directly to the blog post so I can leave a comment and give site traffic in the process (something RSS readers don’t necessarily do). Basically, BlogLovin’ is helping me feel more connected to book bloggers, and that’s never a bad thing.

Shameless plug time! I can’t talk about Bloglovin’ without adding a follow button.

How do you follow the blogs you read regularly?

Her dissertation will be on digital book communities as public pedagogy (ask her about it!), though she often takes a break from all of that to read books about oppressive governments and sassy teenagers. In a former life, she was a middle school teacher and middle school librarian. In her future life, she's a professor of YA lit. In her free time, she drinks a lot of coffee while planning her next grand adventure (there's always something).

  1. I’ve been blogging for 2.5 years, and I’ve never been as active as I have been in the last three months, to be honest. This is all thanks to Bloglovin’. Google reader is something I didn’t really get used to so I wasn’t nearly as active in commenting as i have been.

    Yes, thank you, Bloglovin’!

  2. I’ve been planning to use bloglovin’ for a while now too, just need to find the time to set it up and stuff. But now that my midterms are over, I’ll be sure to fix it soon! 🙂 Right now, I’m only using the WordPress Reader, so I’m not really that active — but I’ve only started blogging a few months ago, so I’m still quite new to some things.
