Ask me anything! is new feature (inspired by Tumblr) where I answer some of the questions I get about anything and everything.

This question comes from Diana T. at Strahbarys Fields

Question: I am looking at moving to another blogging platform much like you have to be able to make some money off of my blog and have been doing research on what to do. I basically want to do what you did. Do you have any referrals for companies to help with this?

Great question! I would be happy to recommend the service I used, as I was very happy with my transition. I contacted Ashley at Creative Whim and she talked me through the process. I moved from WordPress.com to self-hosted WordPress on Ashley’s Book Host network. I purchased my new domain name (which will cost $11 a year) and I pay a monthly fee (currently $8.99) to have my blog on her server. Ashley also offers the service of migrating the existing blog posts to the new blog, so I also decided to use that service.

After completing my migration, I was so incredibly impressed! Ashley responds so quickly to service tickets and I haven’t had any problems on the new site. Her Tweak Me theme was included on the Book Host server, so I can completely customize much of my blog (I’m actually paying for a custom design this month, too). The best part was that the Ultimate Book Blogger Plugin came free with Book Host, which has made my life so much easier! I can’t recommend Book Host and Ashley’s services enough. I was just really happy, as a book blogger, to spend my money with another book blogger who understands and knows the book blogging community’s needs, rather than some faceless company.

As for making money off my blog, I’ve been using ads from LitBreaker. I like that the ads are attractive and book-focused, so I suggest looking into their services. I’m not making enough for an early retirement or anything, but enough to pay my hosting fees and such. If any of my readers have experience with other ad services, certainly leave your thoughts in the comments to help Diana do her research!

In her future life...well, that's yet to be determined, but it probably involves getting kids jazzed about books or research. In her free time, she drinks a lot of coffee while planning her next grand adventure (there's always something).

  2. naturally like your web site however you have to check
the spelling on several of your posts. A number of them are rife
with spelling problems and I in finding it very troublesome to inform the
truth on the other hand I’ll definitely come back again.

  3. Hey Tara! I remember initially following you through WordPress.com and I knew you had switched to self-hosted, and as I’m considering doing the same myself I was wondering if you had any advice! I’m a little nervous about if its the right move for me (in terms of losing followers and blog traffic…and also how tracking my stats will work) and I’m also wanting to go through Ashley with her Book Host service!

Thank you in advance for your advice!

  4. There is a downside to this strategy, however, which is that you must keep careful track of
thee market, as the deemand may eventually col off
again. Otherwise there are expenses forr gas, car reair and other traveling costs.
An important step for entrepreneurs iis to confirm that they have enough capital to cover the start up costs for their new venture.
